Three Section V Teams Earn Spots in NYS Semifinals

Penfield, Canandaigua and Penn Yan advanced to the Class A, B and D New York State Semifinals in boys lacrosse with regional victories on Saturday.

In Class A, Penfield won its sixth straight game, holding off Orchard Park 12-10 at Churchville-Chili. The Patriots built a 7-2 in the first half on two goals each from Jake Maurer and Griffin Bannister. Maurer finished with five goals including a goal with 3:11 remaining to ice it.

Penfield plays West Genesee at SUNY Cortland at 5:30pm on Wednesday for a spot in the NYS Finals at Hobart.

Class B, Canandaigua stormed out to a 7-1 first quarter lead on Lake Shore and won 15-6 to move into the NYS Semifinals on Wednesday at SUNY Cortland, where they'll face Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse at 6:30. Drew Williamee netted two goals and added five assists while Mike Belles had two goals and two assists for the Gray Wolves.

After advancing in the Class C Sub-Regional on Wednesday, HF-L's season came to an end in Syracuse with a 16-5 loss to Jamesville-Dewitt. Grady Goodberlet and Marco Vengoechea scored twice each for the Cougars.

Penn Yan also won a Sub-Regional at Canandaigua on Wednesday before topping Marcellus, 13-8 to reach the Class D NYS Semifinals. Teagan Fingar led the Mustangs with four goals and three assists en route to their fifth straight victory. Penn faces Ogdensburg Free Academy in the NYS semis on Wednesday at SUNY Cortland.
