Section V Athletics is excited to announce the scholarship recipients for the spring season! Section V offers a $500 scholarship for each sport each season to be used toward future academic endeavors as part of its mission to promote excellence in interscholastic athletics while supporting an education based learning environment. Winners are selected based on a letter of recommendation from their coach, their high school transcript and activities sheet, as well as their responses to application questions. More than 40 students applied for this season’s scholarships, making it a very competitive selection process! 2025-2026 spring scholarship winners include:

 

	Baseball: Miguel Gonzalez, Wheatland-Chili Miguel has been participating in baseball since he was in kindergarten. He also participates on the school’s soccer, swim, and track and field teams. Miguel shares that some of his favorite highlights from this past season include “the school being able to put together a varsity team my final year as well as being selected as part of the Exceptional Senior All-Star Team”. After high school, Miguel plans to attend William Paterson University to study Exercise Physiology and, ultimately, attend Physical Therapy school. While at William Paterson University, Miguel will be a member of the Varsity Swimming and Diving Team. Miguel states the one word that best describes him is “driven”.
	Boys Golf: Aiden Hoy, Pittsford Sutherland Aiden has been participating in the sport of golf for four years. Aiden also participated on the varsity boys’ soccer team. Aiden shares that some of his favorite highlights from this past season include “winning sectionals with the team as well as supporting teammates in individual super sectionals/states”. After high school, Aiden plans to attend Wake Forest University to major in Finance. One word that Aiden states best describes him is “energetic”. Congratulations, Aiden!
	Boys Lacrosse: Braden Fingar, Penn Yan Academy Braden has been participating in Lacrosse for 13 years. While in high school, he also participated on the football team. Braden shares that some of his favorite highlights from this past season include being named or selected for: “USA All-American, First Team All Star Section Five, Herb Fitch Senior All Star Game, Section V All-Tournament Team, NYS Scholar Athlete, and Penn Yan Academy Coaches Award”. After high school, Braden plans to play Division I Lacrosse while attending Towson University. Braden states the one word that best describes him is “driven”. Congratulations, Braden!
	Boys Tennis: Perry Francis, East Rochester Perry has been participating in the sport of Tennis for five years; he also participated on the varsity soccer team. Perry shares that some of his favorite highlights from this past season includes “My team and I took home the block placing first in team sectionals where we defeated Avon 4-1. Me and my teammate, Tristan, placed second in individual sectionals. Finally, I really enjoyed ‘tennis roulette’ during practice”. After high school, Perry plans to attend Miguels Wesleyan and major in engineering”. He will also play on the developmental soccer team. Perry states the one word that best describes him is “amiable”. Congratulations, Perry!
	Boys Track & Field: Ibrahim Ford, Arkport Ibrahim has been participating in Track and Field since the 7th grade. Ibrahim shares that his favorite highlights from this past season include “four individual and team sectional titles, State Champion in the 3200, runner up for Feds, Federation Champion for 3k steeple, and runner up in the 1600 for Class C. Also, took second place at New Balance Nationals in the 2k steeple breaking the old national record”.  After high school, Ibrahim plans to attend Cornell University to study Engineering and continue running cross country and indoor and outdoor track. Ibrahim states the one word that best describes him is “competitive”.
	Flag Football: Sydney Howard, Wayne Sydney has been participating in Flag Football for one season. In addition, she participated in soccer, basketball and outdoor track. Sydney shares that some of her favorite highlights from this past season includes “being a part of the offense and defense this season and having the opportunity to play multiple positions such as quarterback, running back, wide receiver and safety. My stats for the season include: 938 yards rushing, 375 yards receiving, 20 Touch Downs including 4 on punt returns and 5 Interceptions”.  After high school, Sydney plans to study to become a Physician’s Assistant at Gannon University while continuing to play soccer.  Sydney states the one word that best describes her is “optimistic”. Congratulations, Sydney!
	Girls Lacrosse: Marin Jaeger, Irondequoit Marin has been participating in Lacrosse for the last ten years. She also participated on the girls’ soccer team. After high school, Marin plans to attend Siena University to study health while playing Division I Lacrosse. Marin shares that some of her favorite highlights from this past season include “the unforgettable team chemistry and our last regular season game against Honeoye Falls-Lima—beating them 13-12”.  Marin states the one word that best describes her is “vivacious”. Congratulations, Marin!
	Girls Track & Field: Isabella Mesiti, Brockport Isabella has been participating on the school’s Track and Field team for six years. In addition, she participated in Game-day Cheerleading, Competitive Cheerleading and the Indoor Track/Field. Isabella shares that some of her favorite highlights from this past season include “being able to spend my last season making memories with my best friends! Pole vault has pushed me to grow, challenge myself, and believe in myself more than I ever thought I could. The heights I reached were definitely special, but the laughs, support, and memories with my friends are what made this season one I’ll never forget”. After high school, Isabella plans to attend the University at Buffalo to pursue a degree in architecture and work toward becoming a licensed architect. Isabella states the one word that best describes her is “tenacious”. Congratulations, Isabella!
	Softball: Calla McCombs, Bloomfield Calla has been participating in Softball for 10 years. In addition, she participates in volleyball and basketball. Calla shares that some of her favorite highlights from this past season include “batting .612 with 46 RBI’s”.  After high school, Calla plans to attend the University of Hartford to play volleyball and study to become a geriatric nurse.  Calla states the one word that best describes her is “motivated”.
