In the bottom of the sixth, McQuaid's first two batters reached, but the Jesuit Knights were unable to capitalize. After the lead runner was erased at third on a double steal, Fairport turned an unconventional double play getting a K2-3 after a dropped third strike. Red Raiders' catcher Ben DiSanto was up the line when he made his throw to first and then alertly returned to cover home plate where he received a return throw from Drew Gruba to get McQuaid's Connor Forkey to end the inning. Fully tested and tighter than they were before the trip, the top-seeded Rams (20-3) returned to New York and rampaged through Section V, taking a 16-game win streak into the Section V Class B1 title game on Saturday afternoon before finishing the job with a 1-0 win over No. 3 seed Wayland-Cohocton. Trenton Green fanned 12 over a complete game to lead Wellsville to a record 17 Section V championships and third in a row. Paul Giovanniello broke a 2-2 tie in the third inning after crossing home. Giovanniello had two hits, two RBI, and stole two bases. Drew Cowburn went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Ben Helveston had a double, RBI and a run. Matt Ritter had a double and scored a run. Ty Rahr scored a run. For East Rochester Mason Loria and Tyler Leisten scored a run apiece. Noah Wollschlager had an RBI in a multiple-hit performance. Nic Cole fanned 12 over a complete game of four-hit ball with one run while driving in a run as Kendall (NYSSWA Class C No. 5) won the Class C2 Section V championship. The Eagles go back-to-back as sectional champs and garner their third title in program history. Andrew Cole hit an RBI-single in the first inning to score the first run of the game while Nic Cole grounded out in the second to make it 2-0 Kendall. Sammy Conte singled to drive in a run in the third while CJ D'Agostino and Jacob Abrams finished with a hit and a run apiece. Vinnie D'Agostino tallied a hit while Jonny Conte crossed home plate once. For Genesee Valley-Belfast (NYSSWA Class C No. 10), Ethan Davenport went 2-for-3 while Carson Foster hit an RBI-single to drive home Nolan Hunter. Ian Mackenzie recorded a hit as well. Kendall extends its win streak to eight and advances to the Class C Regional Qualifier to take on the winners of Class C1, Gananda (NYSSWA Class C No. 12).
CLASS D
NO. 1 ARKPORT-CANASERAGA (19-3) 2
NO. 2 FILLMORE (17-2) 5
Isaac Wilcox went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs while pitching six innings and only allowing two runs as Fillmore won the Class D Section V championship. Jared Boon had two hits, scored twice and drove in one run while also pitching the final inning and striking out two batters. Boon drove in the first run of the game on a triple in the fourth inning. Wilcox brought home Boon in the next at bat with a single to make it 2-0 Fillmore. Wilcox connected on a two-run single in the sixth inning to make it 4-1. Washburn drove in the final run with an RBI single. Malcolm Nusbickle finished the game going 1-2 and crossed the plate twice. For Arkport-Canaseraga, Drew Glover led the team with two hits, and Caden Carey was the only player to drive in a run. Fillmore will face Ellicottville on Tuesday, June 2nd in the first round of the state tournament.
