
Seven years ago,
Joe LaPietra, a longtime Athletic Director in the Rochester City School District, was diagnosed with ALS (commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). Joe served as the Athletic Director at Wilson Magnet for many years and has made a lasting impact on countless students and staff. Earlier this year, Joe passed away and left behind his wife and two daughters.
To honor Joe and raise awareness, a group of local Athletic Directors came together and organized the
Joseph LaPietra ALS Strikeout Baseball/Softball Classic (formerly known as the ALS Baseball Day) taking place
Saturday, May 16th. Nine games will be played across two locations — Greece Olympia High School and Gates-Chili High School (see schedule below).
