"The Godfather of Section V Wrestling," Frank Marotta was inducted into the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame on July 26th.
Elected Executive Director of the Section V Wrestling Officials in 1965, Marotta has been among the leaders of that group ever since and a member of the NYS Wrestling Officials Association since 1976 and has served as the group's president, vice president and rules interpreter and since 1981, has chaired the Screening and Evaluation Committee that selects officials for the New York State Tournament.
A founding member of the Friends of Section V Wrestling and Section V United Sports Boards, Marotta chairs the Section V Wrestling Hall of Fame committee and assists in production of the NYS Wreslting Rules Interpretation Handbook.
After graduating from the University of Rochester, Marotta returned to his alma mater, Madison High School. coaching for 22 years and amassing 101 victories.
Along with his induction to the NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame, Marotta has received numerous awards, including the NFHS Officiating Award, the Leo Bernabi Award for Distinguished Service to Wrestling, the Terry Justice Wrestling Service Award, the NYS Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame, the Upstate NY Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Section V Wrestling Hall of Fame, the City/Catholic League Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Rochester Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame.
