Waterloo and Webster Schroeder are each bringing a state championship back to Section V.

At the NYSPHSAA championship tournament at Hudson Valley the Tigers used one of their patented second half runs in each of their games to claim the first state championship in school history. They defeated Cortland (Section III) 72-50 in the semifinal round, and Putnam Valley (I) 58-48 in the championship game.

Webster Schroeder also won a state championship for the first time in the history of their girls basketball program. The Warriors did so with trademark defensive tenacity as they defeated Baldwin (VIII) 49-39 in the semifinal game and White Plains (I) 49-41 in the championship.
