The 2022-23 Section V boys basketball tournament will begin on Tuesday, February 21. The 2022-23 tournament will crown champions in 10 classifications, with 120 teams competing.

Pembroke (Class C2) and Lyons (Class C3) each finished the regular season with a record of 19-1, tied for the best record across Section V. The Dragons and Lions are joined by Avoca-Prattsburgh (Class D1) for the highest sectional points average. All three teams picked up an average of 4.750 sectional points per game.

The sectional tournament will conclude with championship games on Friday 3/3 and Saturday 3/4. All 10 championship games will be held at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Winners of the sectional tournament will advance to the state playoffs, with the state championship tournament taking place March 17-19 in Glens Falls.

Section V hosted a banquet on Saturday, 2/18 to honor the #1 seed and the Coach of the Year winner in each classification. The #1 seed award is given to the team with the highest sectional points average in each classification. The following teams earned the #1 seed in each of the 10 classifications within Section V:

• Hornell (16-4), Class B2
• Rochester Academy Charter School (16-3), Class C1

• Avoca-Prattsburgh (18-2), Class D1
• Jasper-Troupsburg (17-3), Class D2

The Seciton V Coach of the Year Award is voted on by the coaches in each individual classification. The 2022-23 Coach of the Year in each of the 10 classifications are:
