            Gene Johnson graduated from Alfred Almond H.S. in 1952. Gene then attended and graduated from SUNY Brockport college in 1958.  His masters came next in 1960 followed by his Administrative Certificate in 1961; both at Brockport. 

            Mr. Johnson taught physical education and health and coached several sports in Greece including head soccer coach (1960-69) and head basketball coach (1964-69).  He became the Olympia H.S. Principal in 1992 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1995.  As an aside, Gene never left the Greece CSD and taught and/or coached in all 3 high schools.
 
            Gene has made positive contributions to Section V basketball in a variety of roles. He coached basketball at both Greece Olympia and Greece Arcadia and served as the Monroe County Chairman (1976-80). As a member of the Section V Basketball Committee in 1978, was instrumental in the reestablishment of the New York State Public School Athletic Association’s championship tournament. He served as Section V Basketball Chairman from 1981-1990 and State Chairman from 1985-1990. In his career Gene served on the Section V and NYSPHAA Football Committees from1992-2005.  He also served on the Section V Executive Committee (1991-99) where he added his experiences and expertise in this important leadership position.
 
            Gene found time to volunteer with the Monroe County Special Olympics as well as the Easter Seals committee.
 
            Gene’s service to the youth in our community has been recognized as recipient of the Mark Vienna Memorial Service Award, the McDonald’s Community Service Award, the Greece Athletics Lifetime Achievement Award (2003), the Rochester IAABO Board 60 Award and was inducted into the Alfred-Almond Sports Hall of Fame in 1995
 
            Gene and his wife Rita have been married for 63 years and continue to reside in Greece.  They have 6 children: Jimmy (Pat), Tom (Kathleen), Mark (Leslie), Julie, Kathy (John), Danny (Tina) & 13 grandchildren.
