Kelly (Bissel) Beitz

Attica CSD Elementary Principal/Girls Basketball Coordinator

Kelly Beitz graduated from Wyoming CSD where she lead their volleyball team to a 1978 Section V title. She received her BSE in physical education in 1983 from SUNY Cortland and her MSE at SUNY Brockport in 1983 and her Certificate of Advanced Study in Administration – 1999, also at Brockport.

From 1983-85 Mrs. Beitz taught in the Batavia City School District. From 1986-89 Kelly taught Elementary Physical Education in Pavilion before returning to Batavia. In 2000 Mrs. Beitz found her home as an Elementary School Principal in Attica where she continues to work today.

In terms of coaching Kelly has had great experiences coaching modified and JV soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball, and at the varsity level, soccer, basketball, softball and tennis. Kelly is currently coaching JV softball and girls volleyball and before that acted as a volunteer softball coach for eight years at Attica.

Kelly is also known as a great volleyball and softball official; Volleyball (1982-2002 and 2017 to present) and softball (1984-86).

In terms of Kelly’s Section V Experience, she was an integral member of the girls’ basketball committee (1983 – 1999). She began in 1983 as the typist, typing the team names on the brackets with a real typewriter! She hung around with this committee long enough until Nancy Viola, the girls basketball chairperson at the time, finally gave her a “real job” as a Class Coordinator! Kelly was the 3rd girls’ basketball chairperson after Nancy and Jodi Schmeelk, and served in that role as coordinator for 13 years (2000-2012). Kelly has been recognized with the Ronald McDonald Volunteer Award.

Mrs. Beitz has said that she is grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing people throughout Section V! She would like to thank all of the many volunteers who have worked on the Girls Basketball Committee for their efforts and commitment to providing the student-athletes of Section V with a first-class basketball tournament. The support of the Section V Executive Committee, basketball coordinators, sponsors, coaches, officials, administrators, and most importantly, the student-athletes was not only valuable, but contributed to the success of our tournaments. She also credits her predecessors who paved the way, not only for girls’ athletics, but for the development of an organized Girls’ Basketball Tournament that has evolved into one of the finest in New York State. Kelly feels that the leadership and forward thinking of Nancy Viola, Judi Knight, Esther Dake, Sandy Cutter, Jodi Schmeelk, and others, was invaluable and certainly contributed to the existence of today’s tournament.

Kelly lives in Attica with her husband Jim. They have three nieces and two nephews.

Mrs. Beitz has been in education for 38 years and is starting my 22nd year as the Attica Elementary Principal.
