In 2002 Marty Martin became the Athletic Director at York Central School and volunteered to represent the Livingston Conference on the Section V Sportsmanship Committee.  Along with the rest of the original committee Marty was very active in developing the student athlete sportsmanship programs in Section V which she was always looking to improve and make it more meaningful.  After a few conversations with her very good friend Marilyn Moore, who at the time was the Athletic Director at SUNY Geneseo, it was decided that it would be great to partner the college with our high schools in this endeavor.  Along with Marty’s input and work, the Section V student athlete leadership training programs continue to be very successful.  Being as modest as she is; Marty attributes the success of this program to David Boundy, whom she nominated as the chairperson when he went to the bathroom - the rest is history!  Marty has been a member of this committee for 13 years - 10 as Athletic Director and 3 more after she retired. She is still active in helping out at the annual Sportsmanship Summit.

Marty has been very involved in Section V as follows: Girls Volleyball Committee - 1981-1987; Girls Volleyball Chairperson - 1987-2018; Sportsmanship Committee - 2002 – 2016; represented the Livingston Conference as Soccer chair - late 70’s - mid 80’s; and helped both as a class chair and in the leadership of the early stages of the state playoffs in Girls Basketball.

Marty was integral in developing the girls volleyball state tournament.  Over time she worked with the rest of the state committee to begin regional playoffs and eventually the state tournament.  Marty has assisted at this state tournament from it’s first year in 1991.  With her support and leadership Section V hosted the State Tournament in 2000 and 2001.

In 1987, when Section V girls athletics went from 4 sport season to 3. The Section V volleyball chairs resigned as well as most of the committee as they all coached soccer.  No one wanted to take over so Marty decided it was something that she needed to do help Section V.  It was a big step in her career and she indicates that she learned so much about leadership, problem solving, working through difficult situations - which all lead to the best part - seeing so many athletes playing the sport they love - putting it all on the line - showing courage, tenacity, bravery, compassion, sportsmanship - everything that makes athletics special.  Marty represented Section V as the Girls Volleyball Coordinator for over 30 years and has found it to be a very rewarding experience.  She has said that she will cherish the many friendships that she has made along the way!

Marty continues to reside in Mumford.
