Hall of Fame
Dale Ladd graduated from Brockport HS in 1965 and SUNY Brockport in 1972. He started his teaching career in Palo Verde, Elementary/ Middle School in 1972. In 1973 he moved to Newark CSD where he was a long time teacher and coach until his retirement in 2002. While at Newark, Dale coached boys track, boys and girls indoor winter track and boys and girl’s cross country from 1973-1992. After 1992 Dale spent time coaching in three other districts: Marcus Whitman where he coached boys track, boys and girls indoor winter track and boys and girls cross country 1993-2000 and then to Rush Henrietta where he coached boys and girls track, boys and girls indoor winter track and boys and girls cross country 2000-2005. Dale finished his coaching at Geneva High School where he coached boys and girls cross country 2009-2013.
Dale has been a very strong leader in Section V serving in many positions including: Assistant Section V Cross Country Coordinator 1977-1980; Section V Boy’s Cross Country Coordinator 1981-2018; Section V Girl’s Track Coordinator 1982; Wayne Finger Lakes Boys and Girls Cross Country Coordinator 1982-1992; Finger Lakes Girl’s Track Coordinator 1982-1992 and as the NYSPHSAA Cross Country Committee Secretary 2012-2018.
His vision to make a difference within the sports he coached produced many accomplishments including: Combining boys and girls track in the Finger Lakes League; merging Wayne Co. and Fingerlakes Cross Country Leagues. He also founded an All Section V B/G All Star Team, Coach of the Year Class Awards and a Coaches/ Athlete Section V Hall of Fame.
Dale has been honored with the NYS Excellence in Coaching Cross Country and Track award, NYS Century Award Cross Country and Track, Section V Coach of the Year Cross Country, West Finger Lakes Coach of the Year Cross Country, NYS Track Officials Friesinger Award for Excellence, Section V Cross Country Hall of Fame and the Greater Rochester Track Club Hall of Fame.
Personally, Dale has run the Boston Marathon 3 times, was a member of 4 Masters National Relay teams and is the 1000-yard record holder for Rochester Track Club.
Dale married his High School sweetheart in 1970 and they have 2 daughters and 6 grandchildren. Dale and Sheila are looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this coming March 2020. The Ladd’s reside in Clifton Springs, NY.
