Carl was born in the small village of Clyde, New York. He graduated from Clyde High School in 1944 and went directly into the Navy to serve our country.  After completing his stint, he attended Hobart College in Geneva, NY where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1948. While at Hobart he was quarterback for their football team, along with playing basketball and baseball. He completed his Masters program at Syracuse University, his Superintendent Certificate at the University of Rochester along with graduate work at St. Lawrence University, Holy Cross and Nazareth College.

Upon his graduation from Hobart, he accepted a position teaching math in Victor. While at Victor he introduced football starting with a 6-man team in 1949, moving to an 8-man team in 1955, which eventually lead to an 11-man team.  In 1953 Victor was voted one of the top 10 6-man football teams in the nation. His football teams won many championships under his leadership as coach.  In 1957 he was appointed High School assistant principal, High School principal in 1964 and Superintendent in 1975 until 1986 when he retired.  Both Victor and his hometown of Clyde-Savannah honored his athletic commitment by inducting him into their Athletic Hall of Fame. Victor’s main gymnasium is named after him.  Carl loved teaching in the Victor Schools.  He said his major goal was to make VCS second to none and the results of his dedication to the district are experienced by the students today.  Many people referred to him as the honorary Mayor of Victor.

In 1957 he married his wife Mary Lou.  They had 3 children Debbie, Nancy and Steven and 5 grandchildren. His deep commitment to the community is reflected in the numerous organizations he was involved in.  He was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Victor, a member of the Victor Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Red Cross Cancer Drive, Victor Historical Society, Victor Assessment Board of Review, Victor Round Table, and 23 years as a member of the Victor Lions Club. All of the organizations benefitted from his involvement.

Carl’s sense of community extended beyond Victor.  He served as president of Section V NYSPHAA (1971-1975), President of the Finger Lakes Baseball Organization, was a member of the Pupil Benefits Insurance Board of Trustees, the Blue Cross & Blue Shield board, the Clifton Springs Hospital Board of Trustees and the New York State Administrators Association.  Carl remained active ion Section V long after his retirement and was a staple leading holiday carols at the annual Section V Executive Committee Holiday dinner.

In June of 2002 Carl passed away leaving a legacy of devotion to his family, friends and community.?
